Megan O’Brien

OC-based
product & Design program manager

Hi, I’m Megan — a Southern California–based Product & Design Program Manager. Equal parts creative and analytical, I thrive in collaborative environments where I move ideas forward with clarity and momentum.

With experience spanning agencies, startups, and corporate teams, I’ve supported some of the most recognizable brands in tech, retail, healthcare, and food & beverage.

A wearer of many hats (and lover of a good spreadsheet), I’m known for bringing structure to chaos, bridging teams, and, according to more than one creative partner, “making dreams come true.”

Product Development

I got my start in product development because I loved the idea of shaping digital experiences that touch millions of users everyday.

After earning my Bachelor of Science with distinction from Indiana University’s School of Informatics and Computing, I quickly discovered I had as much a knack for distilling complex requirements as I did for designing detailed mockups.

The blend of technical thinking, creative strategy, and structured execution has enabled me to drive multi-platform application development initiatives across web, mobile, desktop, and embedded systems for brands like Google, McDonald’s, Dunkin’, Chick-fil-A, Kohl’s, and MD Anderson.

INNOVATION & DESIGN STRATEGY

I later found my stride in innovation and design strategy, drawn to the blend of human-centered thinking and cross-functional collaboration. In this space, I’ve worked across the full spectrum of strategy and design, spanning the analytical disciplines of business, product, and research strategy to the creative realms of visual, content, and interaction design.

This balance has enabled me to deliver design outcomes that both advance business goals and elevate user experiences, partnering with executive stakeholders at organizations such as Topgolf, MD Anderson, and Double Good.

Brand & MARKETING operations

Alongside my product and design strategy work, I’ve also built deep experience in brand and marketing operations, with a focus on brand identity, operational efficiency, and creative workflow.

I’ve managed omni-channel programs spanning digital, retail, and experiential channels for organizations like Hoag and Boen, supporting product launches, seasonal campaigns, partnerships, and brand growth initiatives.

In this space, I focus on bridging strategy and delivery, ensuring that creative ideas are executed seamlessly, on time, and with measurable impact.

words from collaborators

  • "Megan’s time at Hoag was spent on some of the most complex full-funnel marketing campaigns and end to end web experience projects. As the program manager, she not only had to manage the work, she also had to work with a lean team that was getting assembled while delivering the work. This meant Megan had to wear multiple hats to fill the gaps and keep everyone moving forward.

She kept a positive attitude day in and day out. Solved one problem at a time regardless of scale. Everyone around her felt her energy and dedication which was integral to Megan being an effective project leader and contributor.

I will always be grateful for Megan’s intelligence, positive attitude, and work ethic. Managers of today’s workforce know that’s not an easy trifecta to come by these days.

I’d happily recommend Megan to anyone looking for help to run marketing operations or just simply be part of any marketing organization."

    — Ryan Chen, Chief Marketing Officer @ Hoag

  • "I had the pleasure of working with Megan at BOEN, and she quickly proved to be one of the hardest-working and sharpest colleagues I’ve ever had. She’s the full package as a modern marketer: able to map out smart strategies and then roll up her sleeves to execute them flawlessly. Megan doesn’t wait for direction; she takes initiative, solves problems, and keeps projects moving forward. Her impact on our campaigns and our team was unmistakable, and I have no doubt she’ll deliver the same wherever she goes next."

    — Ben Mayot, Marketing Specialist @ Boen

  • “I worked with Megan O'Brien on a few different projects where she was the Principal Program Manager and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Megan is an exemplary leader who consistently demonstrates exceptional organizational skills and an innate ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Her expertise in keeping teams on track and efficiently navigating through different work streams ensures that projects are delivered on time and under budget.

Megan's ability to balance competing priorities is unparalleled, allowing her to successfully juggle a variety of projects without compromising on quality or attention to detail. She has a natural talent for client and executive management, fostering strong relationships and seamlessly addressing their goals and concerns while balancing the needs of the project team.

I deeply appreciated her ability to foster collaboration among our team to build relationships and create innovative ideas. Her leadership style is both motivating and supportive, helping team members to excel and contribute their best work. Megan would be an invaluable asset to any organization seeking a top-tier program manager with outstanding organizational skills, exceptional stakeholder management, and a proven track record of delivering results.”

    — Mark Oddon, Principal Product Strategist @ IA Collaborative

  • "I had the pleasure of working with Megan at Hoag, and she was an amazing asset to our team. She's one of the hardest workers I've worked alongside, is always dependable, and also just genuinely fun and easy to work with. She played a key role in many of our design and marketing efforts, from coordinating with outside partners and agencies to keeping multiple projects moving at once. Whether it was the website redesign, marketing campaigns like the World of Excellence, or the constant flow of incoming design requests, she handled everything with great organization and a positive attitude. Her ability to juggle priorities while keeping everyone on the same page made a huge difference, and her contributions helped us deliver results that quite frankly reset the bar for what our internal team could produce. I'd recommend Megan to any team looking for someone who's hardworking, collaborative, and brings a great energy to the workplace."

    — Justin Moline, Principal UX / UI Product Designer @ Hoag

  • “I got the chance to bring Megan into the start of the Program Management team at Very Good Ventures. This meant that it was up to us to set in place the standards and practices to get the practice and team off the ground and running which was no easy feat in a small but rapidly growing company.

During this time Megan had to wear many hats as the Program Manager role really was a catch all for everything we needed to get a program delivered outside of the main engineering tasks. In a scaled organization the roles of account, program, product, and development manager would all be separate roles but we didn’t have that scale. Megan was able to step up to the challenge and get projects delivered with her team on time and on budget. Her project load ranged from small startups all the way up to showcase projects for Google and their I/O conference.

During the time that I was managing Megan I truly had a partner that I knew I could rely on. She knew when it was time to buckle down and get something done versus when to push back when things didn’t make sense for the project, team, or company to ensure we did the right thing rather than just the easy thing to get past an issue.

I enjoyed having Megan as part of my team and I hope our paths cross in the future as it would be great to work with her again.”

    — Tom Arra, Head of Program Management @ Very Good Ventures

  • "Megan is one of the most ambitious business analysts I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Going the extra mile is not a strong enough description of how Megan approaches her responsibilities. She is extremely hard-working, detailed, and thorough and to top it all off she is an absolute pleasure to work with. I true do hope that I get the opportunity to work with her again. Any company would be lucky to have her."

    — Reed Rizzo, Senior Frontend Developer @ Coates Group

  • “Megan was a Product Owner / Business Analyst on my Program for about a year. She is a fast learner, willing to go above and beyond, builds extremely strong business and IT relationships, takes feedback well, delivers high quality results on time, personable, brings high energy and fun to the team and knows when to escalate.

The Program we worked on was an enterprise content management system with about 1,000 users and crossing over 20 different departments and 3 large organizations - Merchandising, Marketing & eCom. Megan transversed well across all organizations, digging into the details, finding the intricacies and complexities and articulating all angles back to the development team. I could always count on Megan to understand the details and to propose potential solutions and ideas back to the broader Product Owner and Development teams.

I would hire her back on any team I am leading.”

    — Judy Gilbert, Senior Information Technology Manager @ Kohl’s Department Stores

  • "I was lead business stakeholder for our company’s enterprise content management system representing the digital operations of the project. Megan was a Product Owner / Business Analyst on the program. Megan is the type of person in IT that you want to have representing your project to be able to ask the right questions to the business and be able to explain the details to the development team.

She is able to balance the IT and business side of a project, with a strong sense of doing what’s right for the company, looking at the “big picture.” She has the ability to not only understand the business needs, but also understands the capabilities that IT can deliver.

She is detailed oriented, solution driven, and always willing to go above and beyond, with an approachable, positive attitude. Her skill set, ability to build relationships, and being able to collaborate on a project is the type of person any business stakeholder wants to have leading IT on a project.

She would be a great addition to any IT team."
